General Game Rules and Considerations

Stay in Character

  1. Staying in character is vital to the role-playing experience. Loitering out of character is potentially poisonous for any game. Keep OOC Banter to the Lounge room or appropriate OOC forums.
  2. No character is immortal, nor are they invincible. Every character can die.
  3. Play a character that you are comfortable with but challenges you daily.
  4. Don't cross characters. In other words, what one character learns can not be shared with other characters you may play. Make role-play more challenging, restrain yourself.
  5. Interact with other players and their characters! Share stories and knowledge, explore the world together. Use your private message boxes to talk about the role-play.

Don't ignore interaction with other characters

  1. If your character is attacked, you must respond. You can not choose to ignore the attack OOCly otherwise your character may end up dead.
  2. By responding to an attack with the same style you may be indicating your acceptance of that style. Pause the role-play. Discuss the style and if in you can't agree, use the Default style.
  3. Contribute to the site. Share your character's stories, share your transcripts and talk about all things role-play on the Forums or in chat.
  4. Participate in role-play. Sit in a room, post on the forum, chat to other players and roleplay.

Keep the themes consistent

  1. Be careful when using technology. This a fantasy medieval world with different laws of physics to our own real world. Guns and other devices will not work in the mortal world. It is possible that guns and other technical devices may work in a changed capacity in different planes of reality.
  2. Characters from other worlds are welcome to Jacmus Prime. If your character wields Magic from other worlds, it will not work at Jacmus. Users must start learning and experiencing magic from scratch. Jacmus is a different world with different laws of physics.

Power Gaming can destroy Friendships

  1. No single character is capable of destroying the world.
  2. Power gaming is unacceptable.
  3. Powerful characters are welcome, so long as they add to the game's excitement for other players and so long as their characterisation is consistent and skills and abilities are learned.
  4. Players have the right to choose who they role-play with and whether they accept that person's role-playing. If you don't like another gamers method of play, then don't role-play with them.
  5. Don't give up enjoyable role-play because of online personality clashes. Role-play can be quite fun between two players who don''t get on!

Role-play and Writing Styles

  1. Every Player has a right to exercise their own writing style in their post. Players may choose to write words, phrases, sentences or paragraphs.
  2. Consider what you are contributing in your post. Does it provide enough information for other players to interact with their characters? Have you responded to actions made toward your character since your last turn?
  3. Consider how long you are taking to post. When playing with a group of players in chat you may need to shorten your post or change the style you are using so that other players will have time to respond to your posts and advance the game. Forum role-play can also become tedious if players are taking too long to respond.
  4. Turn based role-play is often used by players in small groups so that every player has a chance to respond to the action and have a go. In larger groups, turn based role-play may not be appropriate accept when having direct interaction with other players in the group.
  5. The Tense you use in your writing can be a personal choice. Consider how your role-play would read and write in the tense you would enjoy reading later.
  6. If you're not sure if the style and approach you are using is acceptable, ask the players you are with role-playing with for feedback and advice.
